Overview of Acne

Acne is the most common form of skin disorder in America. Millions of people suffer from acne everyday. Although teenagers and young adults are more susceptible to have outbreaks, older adults who are going through menopause or pregnant may also suffer from acne as well.

Acne is caused by an increase in hormones that produce an excess of sebum which keeps hair follicles moisturized. A bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes uses this sebum as nutrients and infects the skin pores creating pimples and pustules.

Acne can be treated by a dermatologist or a host of over the counter remedies. Many times acne can be difficult to treat because there is rarely a one size fits all medicine or treatment that works for everyone. Many people will experiment with what works

best, by trying different cleansers, medicines and facial lotions. There are a host of great products on the market including natural treatments to rid yourself of acne. Many pharmaceutical companies have products for the treatment of acne and there are several new types of acne medicines up for review by the Federal Drug Administration.

If you are suffering from a mild case of acne it is extremely beneficial to try over the counter or natural remedies. For severe sufferers of acne is advised that they seek a consultation with their dermatologist or physician
